About Botox and Jeaveau

What is Botox?

BOTOX® is an injectable dynamic wrinkle treatment that temporarily relaxes the muscles. It became FDA-approved around 2002 to treat a variety of concerns and is used for both therapeutic and cosmetic treatments.

What is Jeaveau?

Jeaveau®, like BOTOX®, uses purified botulinum toxin to temporarily relax the small muscle groups that cause dynamic wrinkles. It became FDA-approved in 2019 and was solely formulated for cosmetic usage only.

Botox and Jeaveau FAQ

When used for cosmetic purposes, BOTOX® targets the muscles in the face responsible for fine lines and wrinkles. Smiling, laughing, frowning and other expressions all contribute to muscles contracting, which creates wrinkles over time and contributes to the facial features looking older and the skin seeming less elastic.

Though they work similarly, Jeuveau and BOTOX® are made by different manufacturers and produced in different countries. BOTOX® is made by Allergan and manufactured in Ireland, whereas Jeuveau is made by Evolus and produced in South Korea. Jeuveau also uses a slightly different form of botulinum toxin than BOTOX®: BOTOX® contains onabotulinumtoxinA and Jeuveau contains prabotulinumtoxinA. According to clinical trials, both compounds share a similar safety profile and are equally effective for treating dynamic wrinkles.

Botox is an excellent anti-aging solution for clients in their mid-20s on. In your younger years (the mid-20s-early 30s) Botox can be used to prevent the formation of new wrinkles. Botox can also be used on more mature skin to reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles and provide a slight lift to the skin giving a youthful glow.

The number of units you would need depends on your anatomy, muscle strength and severity of wrinkles and/or expression lines.

You may start to see softening of your wrinkles/expression lines anywhere from day 3 to day 5 post treatment but you should wait up to 2 weeks to see the maximum results.
